Nobel Laureate visits LANIR Lab

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Stefan Hell, recently visited one of the LANIR Microscopes developed during the EC cofunded LANIR project and based at the Partner UPB.

Prof Hell of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen, Germany won the Nobel Prize in 2014 for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.

Publication - Nature Scientific Reports - High-resolution quantitative determination of dielectric function by using s-SNOM

Abstract

A new method for high-resolution quantitative measurement of the dielectric function by using scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) is presented. The method is based on a calibration procedure that uses the s-SNOM oscillating dipole model of the probe-sample interaction and quantitative s-SNOM measurements. The nanoscale capabilities of the method have the potential to enable novel applications in various fields such as nano-electronics, nano-photonics, biology or medicine.

The Winner of the Best Poster Presenter Award at Euronanoforum 2015 was LANIR Scientist Dr. Stefan George Stanciu, Center for Microscopy-Microanalysis and Information Processing, University Politehnica of Bucharest. The title of the poster was ‘Combined Multimodal Imaging at Micro- and Nanoscale Using Complementary Contrast Mechanisms’

Meeting - LANIR 36 Month Meeting at GNR, Italy, 16 - 17 March 2015

The LANIR Month 36 meeting took place in the facilities of GNR outside Milan in Italy on 16 and 17 March 2015.There was a strong focus by partners on delivering on the objectives of the project with the project end now approaching.

Partners focus was also on how best to achieve the impact from the project and allow for the future exploitation of the research undertaken during the project.

Meeting - LANIR 30 Month Review Project Meeting at University of Limerick, Ireland, 28– 30 October 2014

The Month 30 Meeting took place in Limerick, Ireland and was hosted within the Tierney Building at the University of Limerick. The meeting also consisted of a visit of UL LANIR labs at University of Limerick by the Consortium Members. Partners presented and provided an overview of key action for M30-M36 meeting, M36 meeting will take place in Milan on 16 -17th March 2015.

Meeting- LANIR 15 Month Project Meeting

The Month 15 Meeting took place in Dublin, Ireland and was hosted within the Dublin Convention Centre which was hosting EuroNanoForum 2013. The meeting also consisted of a visit of UL facilities at Limerick by some of the Consortium Members. The meeting developed action plans for the next 3 months, in advance of the Consortium and Project Review meeting in September 2013.

LANIR members took part in the Optics Within Life Science (OWLS) 2012 Conference, 4-6 July, 2012, Genoa, Italy organised by Professor Alberto Diaspro from IIT.

Professor Diaspro (IIT) and Professor George Stanciu (UPB) chaired various sessions in the conference (Event Website: http://www.owls2012.org/ ).

Dr. Christophe Silien (UL) presented a paper on ‘Chemical Imaging with Super Resolution Infra-Red Absorption’.

Workshop on Super-resolution and Life Sciences 2012 Brasov, Romania

The 2012 Workshop on Super-resolution and Life Sciences (WSRLS 2012) is devoted to the fields of high-resolution imaging techniques and their applications within life sciences. The mission of this workshop is to promote the global exchange of knowledge by facilitating the open dialogue between scientists working in high-resolution imaging. The workshop aims as well the identification of subjects that could be the core of collaborative research projects and funding possibilities.
